Der Metathorax (abgeleitet vom griechischen meta für „hinter“ und thorax für „Brustpanzer“)cite-ref-herder-metathorax-1-0[1], auch Hinterbrust, ist das dritte und damit letzte Segment des Brustbereiches (Thorax) der Insekten.cite-ref-herder-hinterbrust-2-0[2]cite-ref-hinterbrust-3-0[3] Vor ihm kommen der Pro- und der Mesothorax. Alle Thoraxsegmente der Insekten tragen jeweils ein Beinpaar, beim Metathorax sind dies die Hinterbeine. Außerdem trägt der Metathorax das zweite Flügelpaar (Hinterflügel) der Fluginsekten.cite-ref-herder-hinterbrust-2-1[2]cite-ref-hinterbrust-3-1[3] Dieses kann allerdings auch fehlen oder zu Schwingkölbchen (Halteren) umgebildet sein.cite-ref-herder-halteren-4-0[4]
